- Abstract
- A randomized comparative study was used to explore the effect of self-help bibliotherapy and creative bibliotherapy on psychological flexibility, self-compassion and psychological well-being. Participants were randomized to self-help condition (n=17) or book circle condition (n=21) and during eight weeks they read either Harry Potter Therapy: an Unauthorized Book from the Restricted Section (Scarlet, 2017) or Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Rowling, 1997). After the intervention psychological flexibility and self-compasssion increased significantly in the self-help- and the book circle condition. Self-help bibliotherapy increased self-compassion more than creative bibliotherapy while psychological flexibility increased equally in... (More)

Psychological well-being did not increase significantly in any of the conditions. The implications of this study are not clear but the results indicate that bibliotherapy can be used to increase psychological flexibility and self-compassion both in therapy settings and book circles. Future studies are needed that have a higher participation number. (Less)
- Abstract (Swedish)
(Less)
