- Abstract
- This bachelor thesis examines discourses in policy and debate on men´s violence
against women as a political subject in national Swedish politics. Particularly, this
study focuses on the party Sverigedemokraterna (SD) and the research material
constitutes of private member’s motions, which is proposals submitted by SD
Members of the Riksdag, during the year of 2021. One interpellation from a SD

occurring discourses in different forums. The method used is the “What´s the
problem represented to be?”-approach by Carol Bacchi, which focuses on problem representations in policy and applies analytical questions on the research material. Based on an intersectional feminist theoretical approach the research questions ask how gender and racism is articulated in the discourse on men´s violence
against women as a political issue and if a human rights discourse exists. The conclusion is that there is a clear problem representation in the material about men´s
violence, particularly so-called honour related violence and oppression, that is
mainly an issue of what the Sweden Democrats call cultural values, non-western
values, and the government´s migration politics. At the same time, there is a discourse that promotes gender equality and human rights with explicit and implicit
assumptions that these are superior ideals connected to western communities
which shows how the discourse is built on constructing “the other”. (Less)
