- Abstract
- Human errors happen all the time, everywhere in the world. Most of the errors are corrected before there is an accident. But in a high risk organization such as the military there are often bigger consequences when an accident happens. This case thesis aims to investigate a connection between experience and the human factor complacency in the Swedish armed forces. It also aims to highlight complacency within the forces in order to decrease this human error.
41 accident reports linked to the Swedish Armed Forces were initially examined to identify cases with complacency. The result was six cases, where all the involved personnel was experienced. Three of those were chosen as different as possible in order to exclude other possible cause.... (More) - Human errors happen all the time, everywhere in the world. 41 accident reports linked to the Swedish Armed Forces were initially examined to identify cases with complacency. The result was six cases, where all the involved personnel was experienced. Three of those were chosen as different as possible in order to exclude other possible cause. A content analysis was conducted based on the theory of complacency by Sharon Lipinski. The analysis showed 25 indicators of complacency divided in three sub categories. Overconfident, not taking the risk seriously and the action had become a habit. The conclusion of this thesis was that there is a connection between experience and complacency in the accident reports linked to the Swedish Armed Forces. (Less)
