This study has compered a number of influencing factors on the Swedish populations willingness to defend themselves. The procedure has been to compare three different periods, with general conscription, dormant duty and reintroduced general conscription. By comparing the same country under three different conditions, increases the credibility. The main source that has been used for this study is opinion survey that are regularly conducted in Sweden.
The study shows that conscription has some positive effect on the willingness to defend one`s country among the inhabitants of Sweden. The result does not clearly show that the duty itself has an increasing effect, but rather shows that the number of conscripts are the main cause. (Less)
