Abstract
The thesis researches opinion representation in Sweden in regards to the EU, with the goal of finding out if Swedish voters are represented in regards to the EU. This is done by researching what the Swedish voters’ as well as the Swedish politicians’ opinions are on increased European integration. Theories of representation and opinion representation are presented. Two different studies are compared to see if there are any differences in opinion. Chapel Hill Expert Survey (CHES) has asked politicians of their opinions on increased European integration in a survey it was compared to the European Election Studies (EES) that has made a similar survey for the voters. The thesis researches opinion representation in Sweden in regards to the EU, with the goal of finding out if Swedish voters are represented in regards to the EU. This is done by researching what the Swedish voters’ as well as the Swedish politicians’ opinions are on increased European integration. Different times 2009/2010, 2014 and 2019 were compared. To see if the opinion changed over time as response to the crises that has befallen the EU. The result was that in total the politicians more positive than the voters to increase European integration over all three compared survives. The reason behind the result might be that politicians have both more knowledge about the EU and/or that they are part of a social elite that benefits from the increased European integration. (Less)
