The results show that there are substantial costs connected to loneliness. To varying extents, loneliness was in turn found to be negatively associated with income and subjective financial situation and positively associated with unemployment. Adding to the small but growing body of research, these findings have possible future applications for reducing the costs associated with loneliness by addressing socioeconomic factors, as well as contributing with theoretical value which could help inspire more in depth research on the topic.
