Abstract (Swedish)
(Less)
Abstract
Cretaceous chalk rafts were transported subglacially with the last ice sheet retreat and are today found partially exposed along the southern coast of Skåne. Outside Malmö, chalk was extracted from these rafts until the end of the 20th century, when it was an important export commodity. Today, a large portion of the purer carbonate rocks are imported from Europe and other countries for various industrial purposes. Similar chalk rafts, consisting of Danian limestone, are mapped in the Ystad area but have never been exploited. Airborne transient electromagnetic method measurements (ATEM), were carried out between the years 2018 and 2020 in Skåne and Blekinge with the aim of mapping and locating groundwater reservoirs. Airborne transient electromagnetic method measurements (ATEM), were carried out between the years 2018 and 2020 in Skåne and Blekinge with the aim of mapping and locating groundwater reservoirs. The ATEM data from these surveys has been used with the aim of locating and volume estimating the chalk rafts in the Ystad area. Using the Geoscene 3D software, the survey data have been interpreted and used to generate a general geological sequence for the project area as well as to identify of areas that may potentially contain Cretaceous limestone. A total of 47 sub-areas have been marked out in the area as being of interest for further investigation. It is proposed to focus primarily on a specific area north of the village of Snårestad where the probability of finding limestone is considered to be the highest. However, this study also concluds that it is not possible to confirm the existence of chalk rafts in the project area solely by using the ATEM method. It is therefore recommended to initially carry out a detailed resistivity survey for better resolution of the layer sequence. This should then be supplemented by drilling to confirm the possible presence of chalk rafts. (Less)
