Honor-culture related issues have been debated for a long time. In recent years, more active measures have been implemented by government directives, including a new curriculum where honor-culture related issues become part of sexual education. The purpose of this essay was to investigate the school counselor's experience of their role in the preventative work against honor-culture related oppression in school, and how the school counselor's professional competence is used in this directive. The method used for the survey was a qualitative interview study in which several school counselor’s at a primary school level in two municipalities in Skåne were interviewed. To analyze the school's preventative measures, a theory of prevention, represented as a three-tiered model based on the prevention strategies utilized in public health, was used. Using this three-tiered model, an overview of the scope of the school counselors' current work was created. In addition, the current work’s insufficiencies became visible in the various preventative tiers. The school counselor has a significant role in the school's preventative work by contributing with specific knowledge about how the individual and society interact, which also means that they have the ability to see early warning signs. But in order for this specific knowledge to be utilized in the best way within the school sphere, there needs to be access to knowledge of what these early warning signs look like when it comes to honor-culture related issues.
