Abstract
Children of parents with mental illness (COPMI) are exposed and at risk for developing mental illness, therefor it’s essential that they receive necessary support. With a hermeneutic approach the study explores the professionals’ view of the work, how it implements and how they experience the conditions of the work. 12 qualitative interviews where preformed on professionals working in mental health... With a hermeneutic approach the study explores the professionals’ view of the work, how it implements and how they experience the conditions of the work. 12 qualitative interviews where preformed on professionals working in mental health care. The result shows that there was a consensus about the importance of acknowledging and supporting the children.
Despite this there were difficulties with implementing the work and the professionals’ view on the performance of work differentiated. Using Webers’ theoretical approach about social actions and legitimacy together with theories about working in human services organizations the difficulties of implementing the work could be comprehended from three dimensions; the moral context and legitimacy, organized emotional care and the relationship between the professional and the patient.
