Abstract
This master thesis has been written in collaboration with a large company in southern Sweden. The goal has been to evaluate a current industrial design proposal, look at the current technology available on the market, and then generate a new proposal that can be implemented in a short period of time. The goal with the design was to generate a design the has a new look-and-feel, while still fitting with the current line of machines.
The development process chosen for the project was Lean Product Development. Lean is common in manufacturing but is gaining in popularity also for product development. To understand more about Lean, a literature review was performed. Most of the literature handled Lean Product Development from an... (More)
This master thesis has been written in collaboration with a large company in southern Sweden.
Most of the literature handled Lean Product Development from an organizational point of view, i.e how organizations can achieve more efficient development cycles, and not the development per se. The American author Dan Olsen however offers a six-lean development process called the “Lean Product Process” which was used as a development framework.
For anyone interested in performing a project using Lean Product Development, this thesis provides valuable information on key areas to focus on, and mistakes to avoid.
The result of the project consists of one physical and one virtual prototype. The physical prototype is based on an aluminum-profile and was used to try the design and solutions and to get a sense of what the look-and-feel of the design will be in real life. The virtual prototype is a computer aided design model which uses one of the company’s previous machines as a frame, but updated with new doors, covers and machine cladding.
The final prototypes are meant to help the company in which design direction to proceed with. (Less)
Abstract (Swedish)
(More)
(Less)
