Abstract (Swedish)
(Less)
Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the mental well-being of shift workers based on the factors of social support from family, friends and significant others, and the possibility to participate in one’s leisure activities. A survey was conducted (n=32), and the participants
were shift workers, working different types of shift schedules, at a Swedish industrial company. The survey was constructed of items regarding social support, participation in leisure activities, psychological well-being and demographic information. An issue that occurred during the process of collecting data was that the response from the sample group was low, which resulted in a low participation rate. The collected data material was handled

The collected data material was handled
based on descriptive and statistical analyzes such as correlation analysis, linear regression analysis, chi-square tests and frequency analysis. The analyzes gave relevant statistical significant results despite the low participation rate. The results indicated a positive
correlation between social support and psychological well-being as well as between the opportunity to participate in one's leisure activities to the desired amount and psychological well-being. The results were in line with what previous research in the field has found. The low participation rate of the survey makes it difficult to draw any generalizing conclusions.
Suggestions for future research are to replicate this study with a larger sample group to enable generalizations. (Less)
