Abstract (Swedish)
The purpose of the study was to examine counselors experiences and challenges regarding the work with the child perspective within child and adolescent habilitation in relation to the obligation to report. The study was conducted through interviews with seven counselors from various habilitation clinics in Region Skåne. The results indicate that counselors have an advisory and supportive role towards their colleagues from other professions. They are good at taking a holistic perspective and are expected to contribute with a child perspective in dialogue with colleagues. They are subject to the obligation to report concerns to social services and are faced with the dilemma of reporting a concern at the expense of alliances with parents and... (More)

They are subject to the obligation to report concerns to social services and are faced with the dilemma of reporting a concern at the expense of alliances with parents and the child's best interests. Taking a child perspective is a special challenge for health care counselors as their work in pediatric care traditionally has the focus on a parent- and family perspective. The counselor can thus end up in a conflict between a parent perspective and a child perspective. When it comes to children who is at risk of being harmed there is really no one who has or takes responsibility for the whole perspective, neither in the habilitation, other institutions or society at large. If habilitation is to increase its frequency of reports of concern to social services a clear definition of who is responsible for the whole is probably needed. There is also a need to consider whether the perspective of children's vulnerability is sufficiently highlighted in habilitations work. The results from my interviews show that there is a need at higher extent for regular dialogues in order to strengthen staff's knowledge and security in the issue of children's vulnerability. (Less)
