Abstract
The main goal of this thesis is to find out, what is a complicated product and if complicated products can be more simplified in their properties, which are these properties and finally to incorporate these properties in the design of an object. The final design will be carried out in a full scale model to understand and test the implemented properties of simplification directly on the product in connection with the user. Finally the results will be analysed and evaluated and shared within this document.

My research covers various areas to reach a broad understanding of physical, visual and psychological demands of a user in interaction with a product. Additional methods like user questionnaires, product testing and user experiments... (More)

Additional methods like user questionnaires, product testing and user experiments deepened my understanding and knowledge which demands and problems a product can cause.

Basically a product consists of form and function. Depending on the requirements of a product, both factors can already cause complexity in a visual and physical way. A product which consists furthermore of technology can enlarge the complexity of a product enorm

For a maximal learning process I have chosen to work within the lighting industry, then lamps cover all three areas - form, function and technology.

The users and his experience with a product plays a central role in my thesis. The official term „ memorable and positive user experience“ means enhancing user satisfaction with a product by improving its semantic, usability, accessibility and provide pleasure in the interaction with the product in their environment.

The outcome is a worktable light, which simplistic is achieved through the concept of „disengagement of complexity“. This method is carried out through the evaluation of all single parts of physical and visual elements in the lighting product.

The final prototype is realised in a full scale model of 1:1 consisting of a base, a lightsource, a connector and optional a reflector which proved success of a simple and intuitive usage. (Less)
