- Abstract
- With Mahsa Amini’s death in Iran on the 13:th of September a series of protests began that are still ongoing today. With the help of previous literature, research, a qualitative interview and three fictional scenarios; nothing happens, a political revolution takes place or a social revolution takes place, the paper aims to qualitatively come to a conclusion on what the most likely scenario is after the protests have taken its course. The consequences of the protests and perhaps the revolution that is taking place will have enormous implications for the rest of the world. - With Mahsa Amini’s death in Iran on the 13:th of September a series of protests began that are still ongoing today. With the help of previous literature, research, a qualitative interview and three fictional scenarios; nothing happens, a political revolution takes place or a social revolution takes place, the paper aims to qualitatively come to a conclusion on what the most likely scenario is after the protests have taken its course. The consequences of the protests and perhaps the revolution that is taking place will have enormous implications for the rest of the world. Iran is the country with the 4:th largest oil reserve in the world, sitting on 9.5% of the world's oil. In the paper the argument is made that it is unlikely that a full scale social revolution, which entails a monumental change in Iranian society, will take place because of factors such as regime tenacity, Iran being a rentier state and their iron hand over the Iranian people. The more likely event is that a minor political revolution will take place as a way for the Iranian regime to not lose control. As the events in Iran have only been taking place for about three months it is a preliminary conclusion, the social revolution that took place in Iran in 1979 lasted for about 13 months and a lot more will unravel in the future.
