Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract (Swedish)
The aim of the study was to investigate the relationships between job satisfaction and empathic concern, perspective-taking and performance-based self-esteem. The study did also aim to examine if empathic concern, perspective-taking and performance-based self-esteem could predict job satisfaction and investigate which one was the best predictor. The survey was answered by 232 working participants where most worked in fields of education as well as marketing and communication, but also in a wide range of other professions. The measuring instruments used were the Brief Interpersonal Reactivity Index (B-IRI), the Performance-Based Self-Esteem Scale (PBSE) and the Short Index of Job Satisfaction (SIJS). The measuring instruments used were the Brief Interpersonal Reactivity Index (B-IRI), the Performance-Based Self-Esteem Scale (PBSE) and the Short Index of Job Satisfaction (SIJS). The results of the study showed a positive correlation between perspective-taking and job satisfaction, a negative correlation between performance-based self-esteem and job satisfaction and a positive correlation between empathic concern and perspective-taking. There was also a positive correlation between age and job satisfaction. The result of a multiple regression analysis showed that performance-based self-esteem was the best predictor of job satisfaction in the model where empathic concern and perspective-taking were also included. In an additional exploratory regression model age and how long you have been working at your current job were added to the first variables. In the second regression analysis age was the best predictor for job satisfaction. (Less)
