Användningen av Multidimensional Existential Meaning Scale möjliggör undersökning av mening i livet i form av ett tredelat konstrukt. Syftet med föreliggande examensarbete var att undersöka huruvida mening i livet respektive personlighetsfaktorer har samband till livstillfredsställelse. Vidare undersöktes

om personlighet har betydelse för relationen mellan mening i livet och livstillfredsställelse. En tvärsnittsenkätstudie med 230 svenska studenter inkluderade Multidimensional Existential Meaning Scale (MEMS), Ten Item Personality Inventory (TIPI) och Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS). Samtliga
livsmeningskomponenter och personlighetsfaktorer hade positiva samband med
livstillfredsställelse och var som starkast för livsmeningskomponenten
comprehension respektive personlighetsfaktorn samvetsgrannhet. I en explorativ regressionsanalys modererade samvetsgrannhet sambandet mellan purpose och livstillfredsställelse. Resultaten visade att mening i livet och personlighet enskilt kan kopplas till livstillfredsställelse, men att variablerna inte interagerar. Att främja studenternas förståelse för livet och hjälpa de att uppleva ett syfte kan ha positiva konsekvenser för deras livstillfredsställelse och subjektiva välbefinnande. (Less)

The application of the Multidimensional Existential Meaning Scale enables the
assessment of meaning in life as a tripartite construct. The aim of this study was to examine how meaning in life and personality factors relate to life satisfaction. A second objective was to investigate whether personality had a significant impact on the relation between meaning in life and life satisfaction. The application of the Multidimensional Existential Meaning Scale enables the
assessment of meaning in life as a tripartite construct. The aim of this study was to examine how meaning in life and personality factors relate to life satisfaction. A second objective was to investigate whether personality had a significant impact on the relation between meaning in life and life satisfaction. A cross-sectional survey study with 230 Swedish college students included the Multidimensional Existential Meaning Scale (MEMS), Ten Item Personality Inventory (TIPI) and Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS). All three components of meaning in life and all five personality factors had positive relations to life satisfaction, and this association was strongest for the meaning in life component comprehension and the personality factor conscientiousness respectively. In an explorative regression analysis, conscientiousness moderated the association between purpose and life satisfaction. The results showed that meaning in life and personality factors can be related separately to life satisfaction, but that the variables do not interact. Promotion of students’ feelings of comprehension and purpose in life can be associated with positive outcomes for their life satisfaction and subjective well-being. (Less)
