- Abstract
- In the year 2020 the pandemic COVID-19 caused several disruptions to society where increased border controls were a major one. This paper will examine how the shock from pandemic related border control affected service trade which relied on movement of people. This will be done by studying trade values on Sweden's import of services from Denmark allocated to two modes of supply. To examine the possible difference, we will use a Difference-in-difference model with mode 1 as control group and mode 2 as treatment group. The result in this paper is that the imposed border measurements did not have a significant effect on service trade that relied on travel compared to service trade that did not. In contrast, the results from placebo testing... (More)

The result in this paper is that the imposed border measurements did not have a significant effect on service trade that relied on travel compared to service trade that did not. In contrast, the results from placebo testing showed that one main group allocated to mode 2, had a significantly negative effect from the border controls. However, the surprising results in our main model could be explained by the classification of data. And the increase in service trade could be due to the deeply integrated area of study and an expansion of service trade online. (Less)
