- Abstract
- The aim of this study has been to understand how social workers within financial social assistance reflect in cases where gambling occurs. Six semi-structured interviews were conducted. The sample consisted of six social workers working withing financial assistance from two municipalities. The results show that a client’s account statement was central to discovering the occurrence of gambling during an investigation. There was a pattern that social workers deemed gambling as an immoral expenditure and that there was a need to teach clients how to spend their assistance properly. A temporary voluntary service to help clients pay bills and avoid further indebtedness was offered by the social workers.
