Abstract
It is important to investigate and better understand what drug prevention interventions look like for young people in society. The purpose of the study was to investigate adolescents' experiences of and perception of the support and prevention efforts that are available for them. The method used in this study was a survey, with a sample consisting of 200 students from two high schools in Helsingborg, allowing for quantitative analysis. The theories used in this study were the ANDTS strategy, the proximal zone theory, and the salutogenic approach. Previous research shows that there is a culture of normalization of cannabis among young people who believe that cannabis is less harmful than other narcotic preparations. Studies also show... (More)
It is important to investigate and better understand what drug prevention interventions look like for young people in society. Studies also show associations between early tobacco and alcohol use with a low-risk perception of cannabis use among students. There is research showing that the majority of high school students have not sought help for their problems from friends, other adults, or professionals. Previous research underlines the importance of young people's involvement in drug prevention programs because the prevention work enables inclusive discussions about cannabis use and supports young people's decision-making. Our results showed that 33 percent of the students felt that the school had or partially had a student health department that worked with drug prevention, and that students who had tried cannabis had a more positive than the negative attitude towards cannabis. Our study has highlighted that young people's experience of and perception of support structures is an area that lacks research. (Less)
