- Syftet med studien var att undersöka upplevelsen av att erfara sexuella biverkningar i samband med antidepressiv läkemedelsbehandling samt vilka strategier personer använder sig av för att hantera dem. Studien syftade även att undersöka hur sexuella skript och normer beskrivs inverka på upplevelsen av att hantera sexuella biverkningar, samt hur vården kan hjälpa denna patientgrupp ytterligare. Data insamlades genom semistrukturerade intervjuer och elva personer mellan 20 och 52 år intervjuades. Intervjuerna transkriberades och analyserades därefter med en kritisk-realistisk och reflexiv tematisk analys. Fyra huvudteman identifierades. Det andra temat “Behov och preferenser” betonar utforskande och medvetenhet kring sexuella och relationella behov. Det tredje temat “Den relationella bördan” beskriver oro över hur partnern påverkas samt andra relationella konsekvenser. Det fjärde temat “Den inre dialogen” illustrerar hur självkänslan påverkats negativt samt hur deltagarna vägt för- och nackdelar mot varandra. I dessa teman beskrivs deltagarnas upplevelser, såsom känslor av skam, frustration och uppgivenhet. Copingstrategier såsom att finna acceptans lyfts fram och förslag på interventioner diskuteras. Studien är av värde för vårdpersonal som träffar patienter som behandlas med antidepressiva läkemedel. I diskussionen beskrivs studiens begränsningar samt förslag för framtida forskning. (Less)

The study also aimed to explore how sexual scripts and norms are described as affecting the experience of coping with sexual side effects, and how health care can further support this group of patients. The fourth theme “The inner dialogue” illustrates how self-esteem has been negatively affected and how participants have weighed pros and cons against each other. The themes describe feelings of shame, frustration and feeling dejected. Coping strategies such as finding acceptance are highlighted and interventions are suggested and discussed. The study is of value to people who are working within health care and are meeting patients being treated with antidepressant medication. Suggestions for further studies and the study’s limitations are discussed. (Less)
