Abstract
The purpose of this study is to understand how modern media formats challenge the journalistic profession and its ideology. This purpose is achieved by studying the influencer Margaux Dietz political interviews in the Youtube series Partitempen as a typical case.
The question presented in the study is thereby: Which aspects of the journalistic profession and its characteristic ideals are being challenged in the case of Partitempen?

The question presented in the study is thereby: Which aspects of the journalistic profession and its characteristic ideals are being challenged in the case of Partitempen?

To answer the question at issue, a qualitative text analysis is conducted. The empirical foundation consists of three videos, which were chosen based on the highest number of views, the comments on these videos, as well as articles written by journalists in traditional media on the topic. This empirical material is interpreted with the help of a theoretical framework, consisting of previous research on the journalistic profession and the challenges the profession faces due to social media. In the framework is also presented some journalistic ideals that characterize the profession.

The study shows that Partitempen challenges several of the journalistic ideals. By studying the comments and the articles we have also shown that there is a discrepancy in how people with and without journalism education perceive objective journalism. Since the public considers that Margaux is conducting objective political interviews, she appropriates the most essential journalistic ideal, threatening the status of the journalistic profession. What further pressures the journalistic profession is the fact that anyone, even without journalistic education or experience, has the ability to do legitimate political journalism. The difference between journalists and influencers is becoming vague as they are both ruled by commercial interests. This increasingly blurred line between the fields threatens to deprofessionalize the journalistic profession as other professions enter the territory. A main conclusion shown in this study is that when media formats such as Partitempen challenge the journalistic profession and its ideals, the journalists themselves tend to defend their profession. In this case by criticizing Margaux and thus defending the journalistic autonomy. (Less)
