Abstract
In light of contemporary findings in evidence-based selection and an updated police profile, the Swedish Defence Conscription and Assessment Agency (SDCAA) have made adjustments to the selection process for police training. Following the adjustments, it is yet to be evaluated how different parts of the selection process contribute to the overall assessment of candidate suitability. The selection process consists of five selection methods, administered in sequential stages: cognitive ability (UnIQ), personality (Adept-B5), strength (IsoKai), endurance (ergometer bike), and a structured interview. Data was collected from candidates (n = 1080) participating in the selection process during 2021. Using correlational and regression analysis we... (More)

Using correlational and regression analysis we examined (1) how cognitive ability, personality, strength and endurance contributed to the admission result, (2) if a specific psychological and physical profile increased the likelihood of favorable assessment in the structured interview, and (3) if interview scales correlated with personality traits in theoretically expected ways. Although cognitive ability, strength and endurance predicted admission (r² = .077-.103), our results show that the structured interview is the main determinant of admission. Upon further examination, cognitive ability, conscientiousness, extraversion and endurance positively predicted interview ratings (r² = .031). Furthermore, correlations between interview scales and personality traits indicated some theoretically expected patterns (r = .10). Overall, we discuss alternative ways of utilizing the measures included in the selection process. (Less)
Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
