The purpose of the study is to gain a perspective on how Russian propaganda looks in today's situation.
The previous research has been based on studies of propaganda during the First and Second World Wars, strategic communication, propaganda in today's media and the relationship between rhetorics and propaganda. The theoretical framework consists of propaganda theory, poststructuralist theory and its connection to politics and lastly framing theory and how it captures media. The material comes from news articles from Russian websites and the methods used to analyze the material are qualitative content analysis and critical discourse analysis.
The results show how different types of propaganda and framing are used in Russian news articles to be able to promote a positive image of the Russian state while at the same time making an attempt to defame Ukraine and the entire ongoing conflict. (Less)
