Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

Intervjumaterialet transkriberades och analyserades med tematisk analys. Analysen genererade tre teman. (Less)
Abstract
The aim of this study was to explore the experiences of parents living with a child with an avoidant/restrictive eating disorder (ARFID). Experiences of the parents’ everyday life, and what was important to them in relation to their child's eating disorder, were explored. The study's epistemological position was critical realistic, and data was collected by conducting semi-structured interviews with six parents of children with ARFID. All the children had an ongoing treatment for ARFID in a children healthcare clinic. The interview material was transcribed and analysed using thematic analysis, which generated three broad, central themes. Overall, the themes indicated that the parents lived in a complex and demanding situation. A big part... (More)

A big part of the families' everyday life concerned dealing with the eating disorder. The parents were confronted with, and needed to solve, several daily challenges related to the children's eating difficulties. The eating difficulties were managed using a range of parental coping strategies, that mainly concerned problem-focused coping. The analysis also showed that the parents generally experienced a lack of understanding from other people regarding their child’s eating disorder. This made it difficult for them to get appropriate medical treatment, as well as other necessary adjustments, for their children. The themes actualize a need to bring attention to suspected ARFID-related difficulties in earlier stages. (Less)
