Abstract (Swedish)

(More)

(Less)
Abstract
Fantastic views and beautiful nature characterize Kullahalvön, a peninsula in northwestern Scania. The contrast between the mountains and the sea create a dramatic and fascinating scenery. On the northern side of the peninsula there is a small village called Skäret. In the middle of the village is an undeveloped plot of land with challenging terrain, called Skrehällan. With a height difference of eight meters, lush vegetation and a vast view, the plot has a special character that has made a big impression on me.

As a result of the increased popularity of holiday homes, it has become more common for challenging and characteristic plots, like Skrehällan, to be built on. How do you create buildings for such plots without destroying its... (More)

As a result of the increased popularity of holiday homes, it has become more common for challenging and characteristic plots, like Skrehällan, to be built on. How do you create buildings for such plots without destroying its original character? This thesis examines how architecture can profit from a site without destroying its original values.

With the plot in Skäret as a benchmark, I examine the possibilities of designing a home in a terrain with difficult conditions in the most gentle way possible. The work discusses various approaches and how they can contribute to minimizing the impact on the site. The purpose is to highlight how different methods can be helpful when designing in challenging locations.

The study includes site analysis, reference studies, sketch and comparison. The thesis is presented in a design proposal, a holiday home on the plot in Skäret. The proposal aims to be neat, discreet and reversible. The design highlights the site’s qualities by working site-specifically with movements, directions, views and connections between outdoors and indoors. The house is built on plinths and moves down the hill. Efficiently planned spaces contribute to reducing the size of the house and thus the impact on the plot. (Less)
