Abstract
More than a year has passed since the war in Ukraine started, and it is yet not known why countries decide to support Ukraine through bilateral aid. In this study, the factors that affect countries’ decision to give aid to Ukraine have been examined. First, data for 8 independent and 2 dependent variables was collected, after which multiple linear regressions were carried out. Due to issues with multicollinearity, different approaches had to be tested, and the independent variables ended up being used as control variables for each other. The results were discussed in relation to previous theories on geographical proximity, democracy, trade, alliances, politics of memory and militarism. In conclusion, many of the theories showed to be... (More)

In conclusion, many of the theories showed to be relevant when investigating what factors determine bilateral aid to Ukraine. At the same time, it was hard to distinguish which ones were more important as many of the variables were correlated. (Less)
