- Abstract
- The purpose of this thesis is to investigate if the international community needs a more comprehensive and unified regulation of volunteering in terms of the increasing interest for volunteer tourism. The paper analyses the existing principles, framework, regulation, and international agreements that govern or are relevant regarding volunteering. In conclusion, the existing regulation of volunteer work is not only too divided but insufficient and inadequate, being too general in its text. As a result, commercial interests such as volunteer tourism can flourish at the expense of the rights of the child and the right to development.
