Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine how the use of the method Signs of Safety is experienced by social workers within social services, which obstacles and opportunities the use of the method is perceived to imply in the work, and which factors affecting the use of the method. To implement the study we used a web survey containing various questions to answer the study's questions at issue. The web survey was sent out to several managers in social services, who forwarded the survey to social workers in their organizations. Altogether 75 social workers responded to the survey. The data conceived from the survey was then analyzed with a quantitative approach and various data were compared to each other to examine connections between different... (More)

The web survey was sent out to several managers in social services, who forwarded the survey to social workers in their organizations. Altogether 75 social workers responded to the survey. The data conceived from the survey was then analyzed with a quantitative approach and various data were compared to each other to examine connections between different components. The results showed that the social workers' overall experiences of Signs of Safety are positive, based on for instance that the frequency of the use was high and the experience that Signs of Safety ease the work was high too. The results also showed that the opportunity to use Signs of Safety in the work was well based on the social workers' expressed knowledge, collegially support along with the ability and encouragement from the workplace. Although the overall experiences were positive, the social workers also expressed obstacles in terms of for example lack of time and demands from their workplace. Further, the factors identified for affecting the experiences of the method were age connected to the frequency of the use, the number of years worked with Signs of Safety respectively the number of years worked with Signs of Safety connected to lack of knowledge.
