Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)

The sample consisted of 16 participants meeting criteria for personality disorder, cluster C. The participants constituted a subsample of the research project POSE. Data was analyzed using thematic analysis, generating three main themes: Uncertainty, The therapeutic refuge, and Change takes time. The participants experienced treatment positively, while insecurity and uncertainty also emerged. In the results the experience of safety in the therapeutic relationship was described as enabling a deeper understanding of the participants own emotional life and symptoms. This was described as contributing to personal change in terms of increased self-care and sense of agency. The results also indicated that the process of change is affected by the limited time of treatment in regards to establishing a trusting relationship. Therapy termination was described as initially seeing the separation as definitive, to gaining insight that the process of change continues. Despite this, the results indicated that prolonged treatment may be of value. The study emphasizes the importance of the therapist's transparency and dialogue, as well as the promotion of trust, reflective functioning and sense of control in the patient. In summary, short-time treatment for panic-disorder with comorbid personality disorder, cluster C, may imply the need for consideration regarding certain aspects of treatment. Even so, the treatment can be experienced as favorable both in regards to panic symptoms and personality functioning. (Less)
