The coordinators, specifically, were identified as a profession unique to the county in question and a result of recent initiatives taken towards improving collaboration efforts between county schools and social services. I have drawn attention to the fact that professionals define problematic school absences differently and have different approaches to the problem, which create obstacles in the cooperation between the social services and the schools. The result suggests that present collaboration efforts do pay off while also having room for improvement. The study also draws attention to the role and function of school- and family coordinators and their presumable impact on cross-professional collaborative efforts. The study also suggests further development of the collaboration. (Less)
