- Abstract
- This paper describes the breath support of a singer, both subjectively and
objectively. The aim of this study was to combine my practice journal, as a coloratura
soprano, with knowledge of breath-/voice- physiology to create a better
understanding of my instrument. The research question was: how does the singer
use breath support to phonate and how can it be described from a functional
anatomy perspective – how do I experience my breath support when I sing? How
can a description of breath support improve my artistic expression? Anatomy was
described from a breath- and voice perspective. A practice journal was produced
during seven weeks and was analyzed using a thematic analysis. The result shows

during seven weeks and was analyzed using a thematic analysis. The result shows
that practice in breath work may contribute to a more extensive use of lung volume.
Chest voice and articulation is important for breath support and timbre through the
whole voice register. Working with speech and text may, apart from technical
aspects, develop musical phrasing. Though there are many ways to describe and
work with singing technique many studies in phoniatrics are based on speech and
regular usage of voice, not singing. A definite conclusion on how breath support is
described can therefore not be made. (Less) - Abstract (Swedish)

aspekter, utveckla musikalisk frasering.
(Less)
