Abstract
The demographic group of older adults is growing significantly worldwide. It is predicted that by 2030, one in six people in the world will be aged 60 years or older. This demographic shift presents major challenges for many countries to ensure that the fast-growing technology developments are ready to fulfil the needs of older adults.
The flight industry is one of the industries that experience an increasing number of older adult passengers. How can this industry adapt to the demographic shift? This thesis investigates the usability of an In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) system. The flight industry is one of the industries that experience an increasing number of older adult passengers. How can this industry adapt to the demographic shift? This thesis investigates the usability of an In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) system. This will be done by performing a usability evaluation of the system with older adults and by creating a digital prototype. The aim will be to determine if the system suits older adults' requests and capabilities. Additionally, the goal will be to investigate if a developed digital prototype of the IFE system entails an evident improvement in usability. This will be done by performing usability tests of the original IFE system and the digital prototype.
The design process is performed as an iterative user-centred design study. Overall, the design process is divided into four phases, which equally contribute to the result. A great focus of the project is to continuously involve, include and listen to older adults throughout the design process. During each phase, an element of user evaluation has been applied.
The result of the degree project is a digital prototype of an IFE system as well as the usability test findings. The developed digital prototype contains several features that aim to improve the usability of the system, one of the features is an onboarding step for the IFE system. (Less)
Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
