Abstract (Swedish)

(More)

(Less)
Abstract
This master thesis consists of the development of a tool which helps product developers design ergonomic products. Many products which end up being manufactured, or end up on the market, are not as well thought out as one could wish. However, this problem can be prevented at an early stage by well thought out designs and adequate evaluations. This was a topic discussed with Avalon Innovation Technology.

The project was a collaboration between the students and Avalon Innovation. Ensuring an ergonomic design in the products ending up on the market, and hence minimizing injuries affecting the end user, was found desirable by all parties. The project was a collaboration between the students and Avalon Innovation. Ensuring an ergonomic design in the products ending up on the market, and hence minimizing injuries affecting the end user, was found desirable by all parties. The creation of a tool with this function could be beneficial not only to Avalon Innovation, a product developing company, but to other such companies, and especially the end user of the launched products.

The project was carried out by conducting background research on ergonomic guidelines and how ergonomics currently are incorporated in the product development process, among other things. At this point in the process, a clear need for a tool of this kind could be identified. Concept generation resulted in an interactive tool. Prototypes were created, tested, and improved. The final prototype was created in Excel with several ergonomic areas incorporated, such as lift and access.

The prototype illustrates how an ergonomic evaluation tool can be constructed. There are great possibilities to expand the tool to include several other ergonomic areas. A further development of the prototype which would implement the tool’s function in a separate software would truly elevate the tool to new heights. In that situation, the tool could make a definitive difference and reintroduce ergonomics on the map covering product development.

The value contributed by this project is the working prototype in combination with the wished improvements. These would make the prototype reach its full potential. (Less)
