- Abstract
- Sustainable development has led to a wave of new conceptualizations aiming to help
to progress and accelerate the necessary transformation of our current systems against climate change. One of these recent concepts is the idea of transformative change that argues that a radical transformation of the economic, social, environment, cultural, and political/governance dimensions in our system need to be transformed so they can push the transition to sustainability further. studies tracking progress. On the other hand, the concept of Sovereign ESG has emerged recently with the aim to help to progress towards sustainability and its main focus is contextualization. This thesis explores these two frameworks at a theoretical and empirical level. First, a systematic mapping is conducted to identify its complementarities at a theoretical level. This reveals in what ways can Sovereign ESG be a good analytical evaluating model for contextualized transformative change. Moreover, an empirical analysis is performed by using
the Sovereign ESG Data Portal from 2023 published by the World Bank (2023a). Findings highlight the key role of contextualization for sustainability, the importance of tracking progress in sustainability, and the promising harmonization between the two frameworks. (Less)
