- Abstract
- Considering a panel data of 23 countries from different income levels, this research aims to understand the role of governmental quality in mediating the effects of income inequality on CO2 emissions in the period between 1990 and 2020. Using system-GMM, results indicate that good governance is indeed a crucial factor in establishing the direction of the relationship between income inequality and environmental degradation, with a considerable relevance for middle- and low-income countries.
