Constructing a SDG 7 Composite Index: A study on the Sustainability Performance of Ghana’s Energy System
(2023) EKHS35 20231Department of Economic History
- Abstract
- The purpose of this thesis is to examine sustainability trends in Ghana’s energy system. This is done through the construction of a composite index, which is suggested as a more proper way to measure progress towards achieving Sustainable Developing Goal 7. The results imply that Ghana’s energy system has become more sustainable in social terms, such as energy accessibility and security, but less sustainable in terms of increased usage of non-renewable energy sources and higher emissions. This indicate that Ghana has not been able to leapfrog to sustainability, and that developing countries face a sustainability dilemma when it comes to energy.
