This research investigates two interconnected research questions about the relationship between gang criminality in Sweden and its potential applicability as a model for Finland, as well as the public and media discourse surrounding the crime situation in Sweden and its implications for Finland. It explores the extent to which the Swedish examples in relation to gang criminality can serve as useful models for Finland and the potential outcomes that could arise from adopting such models. The study analyses relevant data, policy documents, and scholarly literature to examine the similarities and differences between the two countries contexts, criminal justice systems, and gang-related challenges. By drawing upon Swedish experiences and strategies, this research aims to identify potential insights, strategies, and lessons that could be relevant and applicable to the Finnish context, ultimately contributing to effective approaches in combating gang criminality. The research furthermore explores the public and media discourse in Finland concerning the crime situation in Sweden and its repercussions for Finland. Through qualitative content analysis of media articles and other relevant sources, the study examines the narratives, themes, and discursive patterns present in the public and media discussions surrounding gang criminality in Sweden and Finland.
