- Abstract
- This research project examines the research on safe and forced repatriation and how those concepts have been contested in research, especially in the case of Syrian repatriation from Lebanon. It focuses on how there needs to be nuance and fluidity added to the perception of safe repatriation. It suggests that voluntary repatriation is a disguise for forced repatriation and that research needs to further engage in the complexity of force beyond the conditions for a safe return mandated by the United Nations and the European Union. It is giving permission to Lebanon to use the same policy framework in order to forcibly displace Syrians through a premature and unsafe repatriation. (Less)
