- Abstract
- The purpose of the essay is to examine notions of what characterizes a good priest in the Church of Sweden's ordination vows and the guiding materials available for the interpretation of these.
I analyzed the ordination vows which the priest takes at his or hers ordination and used a virtue ethics and a professional ethics perspective to interpret four documents to find out what they say about the ordination vows.
The result of my analysis shows that the priest's way of life is central in both vows and guiding documents. Even in the tension between being private and on duty, the documents clearly show that the priest is always on duty. As a priest, you are always a servant of Christ, Verbi Divini Minister, with Jesus as a role model and...
