Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to investigate how journalists at Lilla Aktuellt and Juniornyheterna are influenced by their news audience, primarily children and youths, on Tiktok. Both editorials work on behalf of Swedish public service, which means they have to report objectively and impartially. Previous research has shown that public service organizations must reassess what it means to be of public service in an ever-changing media landscape. Previous research has shown that public service organizations must reassess what it means to be of public service in an ever-changing media landscape. But there is currently no Swedish study that has investigated how Swedish public service, SVT and SR, position themselves on Tiktok, with the aim of reaching children, which calls for new knowledge. Through semi-structured interviews this thesis explores how the participants reflect on their news evaluation regarding Tiktok. More specifically, the study examines the significance of the interaction with the audience for the editorial's journalistic ambitions, using theories of digital literacy, platformization and linear communication. The main result of this study is that comment field moderation on Tiktok is a valuable, yet resource-intensive, task because the editorials get an indication of what engages the target audience. It also breaks down how Lilla Aktuellt and Juniornyheterna try to position themselves on Tiktok as a credible and reliable news source for children. (Less)
