Abstract
Infrastructure and sustainable transport systems are crucial for society’s development. Sweden’s current largest infrastructure project, the Stockholm bypass, is right now taking place west of Stockholm. The bypass is supposed to relieve Europe highway (E4) and connect the southern and northern parts of the city. The bypass takes place in a couple of municipalities in Stockholm, one of them are the municipality of Ekerö. Ekerö is a municipality located west of Stockholm consisting of island with only one road connecting them to the rest of Stockholm. Ekerö is a municipality located west of Stockholm consisting of island with only one road connecting them to the rest of Stockholm. The study presented two different perspectives of the bypass, one national and one local and the main focus was on the local. The national perspective was the Swedish traffic authority and the local one was the municipality of Ekerö. The study analysed how the bypass will affect the municipality of Ekerö. The study consisted of a literature study and an interview. The effect of the bypass was analysed in separate parts such as availability, nature and culture, public transport and impacts during construction.

Furthermore, it could be concluded that the municipality of Ekerö will benefit from the bypass when it comes to greater availability, safer traffic system and an extended public transport system. The negative aspects that damage the municipality are accessibility problems during construction, possible damage on nature and culture and the negative aspects that comes of greater exploitation.
