The study delved into various concepts such as mental illness, children and youth in flight, the interplay between social workers and the study’s target group, and the integration of New Public Management principles within the realm of social work. These concepts were thoroughly examined, compared, and analyzed throughout the research. The sample for this study comprised social workers who were involved, directly or indirectly, in the care of children and youth in flight. Among them were professionals from organizations such as Swedish Social Service, Swedish Migration Agency, Save the Children, and school counselors. In order to identify suitable interviewees who could contribute valuable insights and effectively address the research questions, guidance was sought from the social service. Their assistance enabled the researchers to locate individuals who possessed the requisite expertise for the analysis. This investigation employed the qualitative method, specifically chosen to facilitate an in-depth exploration of the process and dynamics within the relationship between social workers and children and young individuals in flight. In order to strengthen and substantiate the study within the field of social work with children and youth in flight, Swedish empirical data was supplemented with empirical material from Ukraine. This is used as a methodological tool to highlight specific characteristics of our problem. The analysis focused on capturing nuanced aspects and understanding the intricate dynamics involved in this context. (Less)
