Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
Finding my inner Nimrud - my life as an ADHD musician
This is a master's thesis on the relationship between ADHD and music, not in medicine. With this work, I aim to highlight the advantages, hyper-abilities and great creative potential that ADHD give me as a musician. I got the ADHD diagnosis after 4 years of study at the Academy of Music. Before that I lived 30 years with only the disadvantages of ADHD. As I was dissatisfied with the medication, I thought "out of the box" and developed new ways and strategies in order to replace the medication and support my life as a "newborn" within the ADHD diagnosis. My thought is to inspire musicians as well as others in creative fields, who have not discovered this about themselves.

My thought is to inspire musicians as well as others in creative fields, who have not discovered this about themselves.

An additional thought was to create "a new Ghazwan", just as if I had a new viola lesson: to practice and learn everything from finding the fingers to musical ideas and then perform the piece called "Ghazwan who has ADHD". I wanted to know more about my brain and its advantages and disadvantages in order to relate it to my viola and the music. I started listening to talking books and found the hidden Ghazwan in two books: "Advantage ADHD" by Anders Hansen and "Joakim's survival guide to ADHD" by Joakim Hedström.

I started from my perspective as a musician and developed new strategies and my self-awareness. My viola teacher Markus Falkbring is the one who has absolutely the most understanding for me among the teachers I've had. This, in parallel with the work with the therapist Sahab Mohammed, became very important for my musical development. I developed new approaches in relation to my surroundings and strategies to take advantage of my energy in everyday life, as well as practice methods, with a careful time planning and unique practice rooms that suit my creativity. My conclusion is that all individuals can contribute to society in important ways when we take responsibility for developing ourselves based on our conditions. (Less)
