Att skapa delaktighet i liturgisk musik idag

Abstract (Swedish)

I detta projekt undersöker jag om och i så fall hur jag som kyrkomusiker kan främja körens och församlingens engagemang och deltagande i den liturgiska musiken i gudstjänsten i den församling i Svenska kyrkan där jag är verksam.
Utifrån kyrkans historiska och teologiska traditioner har jag gjort nya tonsättningar av de sjunga texter som ingår i mässordningen och instuderat dessa med kör och gudstjänstdeltagare.
I denna masteruppsats beskriver jag processen med komposition och instudering och jämför denna med hur andra präster och kyrkomusiker med samma avsikter gått till väga.
De slutsatser som kan dras av studien är att engagemanget och deltagandet underlättades av att jag som kyrkomusiker känner till församlingens särskilda förutsättningar och att repeterandet av den liturgiska musiken gynnade körens och församlingens sång i gudstjänsten. Detta arbete med sina nya kompositioner, instudering och framförande visade sig fylla sitt syfte. Det kom även att sammanfalla med Svenska kyrkans insamling av förslag på ny liturgisk musik och ligga i linje med dess plattform för musik. I likhet med andra har jag komponerat musik där försångare används, men även låtit försångarens partier bli en del av samklangen i övriga kompositionen.

Abstract

Within the frames of this thesis, I explore and describe my process and possibilities to increase the engagement and participation of both choir and congregation concerning the liturgical music within the service, in the congregation where I hold my employment as organist and choral conductor.
As a method for this I have composed new music for the sections within the mass, all according to the theological and historical traditions of the Swedish church. I have thereafter rehearsed and performed the music with my choir and the members of the congregation.
Described in this thesis is my process to compose the music and rehearse it. I also compare my model to increase participation with similar projects.
One of the conclusions drawn from this study determines that my familiarity with the congregation in question was a key factor for increasing commitment and interest in my music and that the quality of the music was enhanced due to the rehearsals. My project, containing newly written music, rehearsals and performing reached the conceived goal. My new liturgical music has also come to coincide with the new goals and strategies of the Swedish Church. Similar to other projects, I have also chosen to utilize a lead singer, but have in contrast also chosen to incorporate the part of the lead singer in to the composition itself.
