- Abstract
- The difference between the academic legal research and the real-world ap-plication is probably of no larger difference anywhere else than in the sphere of International Humanitarian Law.

Through analyzing the most key principles that can be derived from IHL, the thesis endeavors to identify the most important aspects of the legal doc-trine of the field, in order to then apply it to the realities of the battlefield and the soldiers conducting the practical applications.
The thesis finds that the legal education of the combatants are of utmost value for the combatants to be able to fulfill the obligations placed upon them by the legal field. This legal education as pertains to the Swedish Armed Forces is found to have a too low level of ambition, leaving the sol-diers to act in a metaphorical fog that they need not be in.
The thesis concludes with a suggestion for the improvement on this front, by bolstering the ambition of the legal education offered, and by rewriting the rules of the soldier (Soldatregler) that the combatant are to follow, in order to better suit the evolving IHL doctrine. (Less)
