- Abstract (Swedish)
- Background: Participation in organized leisure activities is an important aspect of children's leisure as it creates joy, competence, identity and good public health. Children with cerebral palsy (CP) have less opportunity to participate in organized leisure activities than children without disabilities. Parental support is an important prerequisite for children's involvement in leisure activities.
Aim: To gain deeper understanding of how parents of children with CP experience
the child's opportunities to participate in organized leisure activities outside the home.

Aim: To gain deeper understanding of how parents of children with CP experience
the child's opportunities to participate in organized leisure activities outside the home.
Method: Qualitative approach using semi-structured interviews in cross-sectional
design. Convenience sampling was used to recruite eight participants through
targeted Facebook/Instagram groups. Purposive sampling was used to recruit one
participant. Latent content analysis with an inductive approach was used.
Result: Parental perception of factors influencing participation in leisure activities for children with CP resulted in five main categories: the parents' role, organization and leadership's role, the child's characteristics, interaction with other children and society's role.
Conclusion: The study contributes with new knowledge about resources and
barriers for participation in leisure activities for children with CP, from a parental perspective. The results suggest increased knowledge among leaders and
organizations, more responsibility in pediatric habilitation, accessible assistance, transports and leisure activities in the neighbourhood are needed. (Less)
