This thesis explores the effects of digitalization and commercialization within the field of journalism. As the media landscape undergoes a transformative phase, driven by rapid technological advancements and increased commercial imperatives, this study aims to unravel the complexities of how these forces shape journalistic practices. More specifically it seeks to provide a nuanced understanding of the intricate relationship between commercial interests, and the incorporation of ”shared content” in journalism, such as agency material and rewrites. This is done by examining if the shared content has increased since the entry of online journalism at the beginning of the 21st century. As a complement to the quantitative study, this thesis also presents results showing possible consequences of rewriting, by looking at the framing of the story as it goes from an original article to a rewrite article. The findings not only contribute to an academic comprehension of the subject, but could also offer practical insights for journalists and media organizations as we move forward in the always evolving landscape of digital journalism.
