- Abstract
- This study aimed to deepen and refine the understanding of the responsibility burden that children may need to navigate in a family where a parent is grappling with alcohol abuse. To explore these inquiries, we employed a qualitative methodology, analyzing autobiographies from a narrative perspective. We selected five autobiographies depicting authors' experiences growing up with a parent dealing with alcohol abuse, limiting our selection to autobiographies released in Sweden during the 21st century. The analysis of the responsibility aspect was grounded in concepts related to responsibility and relationships. The findings suggested that the weight of responsibility is not fixed; instead, children might find themselves taking on responsibilities for a parent, a sibling, or their well-being. (Less)
