Abstract (Swedish)
Public transport is vital for the functioning of cities and necessary in reaching environmental goals. In the population dense county, Skåne, prices for public transport increased with an all-time high of up to 11 procent in 2023, affecting 250 000 travelers a day. To investigate how price changes affect demand for public bus transport in the Swedish south, a time series regression analysis for 2014-2019 has been conducted. In order to fully comprehend the factors affecting the demand, elasticities of several independent variables have also been investigated to complete the picture. The results indicate an inelastic relationship between ticket prices and demand meaning a non-sensitive consumer demand. Further, the relationship seems to be... (More)

In order to fully comprehend the factors affecting the demand, elasticities of several independent variables have also been investigated to complete the picture. The results indicate an inelastic relationship between ticket prices and demand meaning a non-sensitive consumer demand. Further, the relationship seems to be positive which is contradictory to previous research and economic theory for normal goods. Nevertheless, the results for the majority of variables are insignificant and it can be concluded that there is not enough evidence to draw conclusions. Future research would be recommended to include other dependent variables such as train travel and use a broader time frame. (Less)
