Abstract
Mental health remains a major public health concern, with a notable rise in treatment-seeking individuals (OECD, 2015). However, limited access to psychological interventions persists due to a shortage of qualified professionals. Given the excessive cost of individual therapy within publicly funded healthcare systems, the focus on cost-effect group therapy becomes imperative (Sundquist et al., 2015). The objective of this study was to evaluate the mental health, self-esteem, and self-compassion among a group of primary care patients following their participation in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). The mental health of the patients (n=7) was assessed using the Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale-short form (DASS-21; Lovibond &... (More)

The mental health of the patients (n=7) was assessed using the Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale-short form (DASS-21; Lovibond & Lovibond, 1995), self-esteem with the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES; Rosenberg, 1965), and self-compassion with the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS; Neff, 2003). The assessment was performed using a person-centred methodological approach to evaluate clinical significance based on the Reliable Change Index (RCI: Jacobson & Truax, 1991). Analysis of the psychiatric symptom revealed clinical significance, with two participants improving across all three DASS-21 scales (p < .05), and another improving in two of these scales (p < .05). Only one participant exhibited a reliable effect on the self-esteem scale (p < .05) and as well on the self-compassion scale (p < .05). However, all participants improved on the subscale self-kindness (p < .05). No participant showed reliable decrease in any of the measurements. The overall result of the study suggests that MBCT can serve as an intervention to improve patients' mental health and well-being within the Swedish primary care. (Less)
Abstract (Swedish)
(More)
